Weekly News 26 September 2017

Belated congratulations this week to Val Mclaren on two PB’s and one Gold medal at the Sussex Short Course Swim Championships the other week in Bexhill and sorry for delay in reporting! More recently the behemoth that is Hever Tri took place! With so many races and competitors if I missed you in the results I apologise but here goes; Emily McLoughlin 20th OA and 5th Female in the Olympic, Rob Bream 102nd, Gary Sims 364th and Mark Freeland 713th in same race with 843 finishers and Charles Severn was 117th and Sinead Taylor 356th in the Henry VII Sprint Plus event - well done everyone, amazing how you know which race and where your bike is!

Meantime, at the East Grinstead 10k, Neil Smith (who we still think of as our Flying Scotsman despite his Crawley AC shirt) broke the course record with a staggering 00:33:25 time! Which meant he was almost exactly an hour ahead of myself and Tom Lees who had the job of sweeper and First Aid! A very pleasant walk round and different company from my usual walking buddy………….

EGTC Oktoberfest 2017 is now upon us - www.egtri.com/oktoberfest - for full details. This Saturday (30th) it's a Swim Smooth session explaining the what, how and why of this Autumn/Winter’s swim programme. Starts at 9.00am in the Pavilion with Coach Tom giving you all the knowledge you need! The following Saturday, Andy Peel will be in the chair introducing a new way to approach your diet and lay the foundations for a successful season.

As always we’ve tried to include some sessions where you might learn something or pick up tips and ideas as well as some fun, social activities to while away the off-season and I’m grateful to those giving up their time to help and would ask that you support those events that you can? Friends and family are generally welcomed - particularly if you can persuade them to take up membership thereafter! Can I remind you that the Outdoor Pursuits event on Sun 15 Oct will need to be pre-booked so either let myself or Emily Miles know if you wish to attend? The high ropes and archery sessions are looking favourite currently……

Please also make sure you have completed and returned the Club Questionnaire by the end of this week! The results will prove invaluable in shaping the future of the club as will the election of a new Chairman at the AGM on Sun 11 November - nominations required as soon as possible please!

Remember our brand new Awards Evening & Party Celebration takes place on Saturday 25th November and tickets can be purchased via the club website. Please support this new initiative for what promises to be a fun-filled evening - more details to follow from Partymeisters Tim and Cathy!

Finally, if you are out there training please Take Care as we don’t want anyone else making a last minute bid for the Crash of the Year prize and robbing Martin of his moment of glory?

Train safe
