A battling 8th place in the World Open Water Champs for swim legend Val Mclaren - a water temperature of 28 degrees and sun burnt face and shoulders added to the difficulties! Val says that the single 3km lap was made more challenging for her by the first buoy being 1.2km away - slightly further than her eyes could focus! Apparently she’s going to spend the winter working on strength training to make the most of her excellent technique - true champion dedication!

I’m sure others of you have been out racing so why not let me know and I can report on your successes? In that absence I can take the opportunity to “thank” Jackie for keeping me going over the near 15 hours we spent walking the Sussex Ouse Valley Way on Friday - 44 miles in glorious weather and some lovely countryside. Best of all was Saint Ted waiting in his car on Seaford seafront to take us for some excellent fish & chips and then back to the start to collect the cars - support team extraordinaire!

Finally, a reminder that there is a Committee meeting on Wed 16th August 8.00pm at Kings and if you have a desire to see how the Club runs so well - and it's a mystery to some of us who attend - then we’d be happy to see you?
