Last weeks News missed the vitally important information that Sally Curtis was the winner of the CSP at the WGP Sprint Triathlon - well done Sally and hopefully the prize will encourage you to actually do some training prior to the Chantilly Middle Distance Race in September?

And talking of racing, some results that have been brought to my attention recently include; Kat Parkin taking 3rd place lady at Steyning Standard Tri on her new bike whilst Roger Taylor seemed happy with his 13th overall. Rich “The Whippet” Smith showed that so long as he takes the correct route he’s a force to be reckoned with by taking 2nd place in the Three Forts Half - a tough off-road half marathon - in 1:26:42 whilst the ever impressive Lance Quirico’s 1:48:11 shows there’s plenty of life still in the old fella plus a possible contender for Crash of the Year I believe? Meantime, at the Haywards Heath Triathlon, Gary Vickers (Standard) and Andy Peel and Gary Sims (Sprint) flew the flag for the Purple Army! Keeping up the tradition of “my name is Smith and I get lost” the famous Neil Smith managed to take almost the entire field the wrong way on the East Grinstead 10 mile leg of the Mid Sussex Marathon w/end! Nevertheless he recovered to scorch back through the field to take the win! This was followed by 2nd place at Haywards Heath and 3rd at Burgess Hill - not bad but did the extra effort on the first event cost him victories? As Mr Chairman has commented on many occasions, if you want to be at the pointy end then know where you're going otherwise just follow the canoe! Congratulations to all and keep letting me know when you are racing and how you get on?

My sincere thanks to all of you who helped out at the Race Recce. As always, the feedback from participants is full of praise for the care, time and trouble each of you took to ensure that these new triathletes feel prepared and ready for their first experience of racing! This is one of the unique things that EGTC offer and I trust that we can continue to provide this valuable opportunity in the future? Thanks again.

Finally of course no News at this time is complete without a call to arms for help at the East Grinstead Triathlon Race w/end - Sat 13 & Sun 14 May. We are a few short in some vital areas to ensure a safe and enjoyable Race so please any help at any time over the two days is welcomed even if you can’t stay throughout? Friends, family and complete strangers can also be accommodated as there is always plenty to do across the reception, pool, field, cycle and run sections. Bacon rolls usually appear during the rig on Saturday and a lunch bag on Sunday plus a race t-shirt/bag afterwards - got to be worth an hour or two?
