First a reminder to the Thursday Night Swim team that we have secured a third lane from Thu 27th April and this should help to ease congestion at what has become a very popular session?

The running machine that is Juhana Kirk continues to astound with a 7 minute PB at the London Marathon 2:51:31! He claims the wheels came off a bit at the end but not as much as the famous “assisted over the line runner” who was being carried over as he finished!

Great racing also at the final 2017WGP event - the Sprint Tri. Roger’s face as Noel appeared on poolside was a picture and, unsurprisingly, nobody came close to catching the Big Man as he stormed home in 1:12:01 - awesome as he’s not done any tri since Ironman last year! Roger came home second to secure the overall Male Vet award seeing off Super Vet Winner Rich Traynor in the last few yards of the run. But finish of the day goes to Dave Mycock and Tim Coogan who battled every step of the way and couldn’t be split on the line! In the end the Male Senior title goes to Dave on account of more events completed but a great show by both of them. Kat Parkin takes the Female Senior overall with Fran Davis the Female Veteran winner. My sincere thanks to all of you who have taken part over the series of events - makes standing around with a clipboard and stopwatch worthwhile! Big thankyou also to Saint Ted who helped at the tri with timing at the traffic lights and attempting to get people to go the correct way on the run - all except Alaric that is!

This Saturday (29th April) it’s Race Recce morning when entrants to this years East Grinstead Triathlon will be coming along to take a look around the centre as well as be led, by you, around the cycle and run routes. On the field around 9.00am with your bike please to be allocated a small group for either the Sprint or Try-a-Tri course as appropriate. Anyone who just fancies running can wait for the return before taking people for a single lap of the route - which features on this years T-shirt/Goody Bag! Thank you in advance for your support.

Of course the compulsory part of “volunteering” to help with club activities comes over the Race weekend - Sat 13 & Sun 14 May. Chief Wrangler Cathy is already taking names and you really don’t want to be on her Naughty List! Any help at any time over the two days is welcomed even if you can’t stay throughout? Friends, family and complete strangers can also be accommodated as there is always plenty to do across the reception, pool, field, cycle and run sections. Bacon rolls usually appear during the rig on Saturday and a lunch bag on Sunday plus a race t-shirt/bag afterwards - got to be worth an hour or two?

Finally, I’m sure you all heard/read the BBC News reports recently which showed that those aged over 50 taking part in moderate exercise each week in swimming, cycling or running are more intelligent than the average population? At least that’s how I explained it to my beloved family who have always viewed me doing anything in lycra as somewhat eccentric bordering on mad!
