First, good news for all you Thursday night swimmers! We have secured a third lane from Thu 27th April and this should help to ease congestion at what has become a very popular session?

The penultimate event in this year’s exciting Winter GP takes place on Sunday 9th April - the Hill Climb TT. We meet at Kings around 8.15am ready to depart at 8.30am. It’s a 25 mile ride at a social pace, except for the three timed sections up some local inclines! Generally takes 2-2.5 hours for us all to get back for tea and cake - Mr Diebel has offered to assist with the timing so accuracy is assured! The Grande Finale WGP event will be the Sprint Triathlon on Sat 22nd April with set up from 6.30am and a mass start in the pool at 7.00am - 500m swim, 26km cycle and a 5km run - and those on the later swim will be out there to cheer home the winners!

The following Saturday (29th April) it’s Race Recce morning when entrants to this years East Grinstead Triathlon will be coming along to take a look around the centre as well as be led, by you, around the cycle and run routes. On the field around 9.00am with your bike please to be allocated a small group for either the Sprint or Try-a-Tri course as appropriate. Clearly if your name is Smith I’ll make sure you know which course you are doing before you start! Anyone who just fancies running can wait for the return before taking people for a single lap of the route - which features on this years T-shirt/Goody Bag! Thank you in advance for your support.

Of course the compulsory part of “volunteering” to help with club activities comes over the Race weekend - Sat 13 & Sun 14 May. Chief Wrangler Cathy is already taking names and you really don’t want to be on her Naughty List! Any help at any time over the two days is welcomed even if you can’t stay throughout? Friends, family and complete strangers can also be accommodated as there is always plenty to do across the reception, pool, field, cycle and run sections. Bacon rolls usually appear during the rig on Saturday and a lunch bag on Sunday plus a race t-shirt/bag afterwards - got to be worth an hour or two? And don’t forget that with the shorter swim distance this year the day will be over quicker than previously so there’s no real excuse?

Wednesday evenings during April see the return of the “must do” Bike/Run Brick sessions as detailed in Martin’s recent email. 7.30pm in the Pump House with a mix of intervals on the bike (bring your turbo) and runs around the field. Do these sessions now and you’ll notice the difference at any early season triathlons - just as those who did the winter Turbo did at the recent WGP Bike TT! Martin, Tom and Fran will be there to help you through the session - they might even help you into your car afterwards?

The club’s annual Members Questionnaire will be coming out to you after the Race in mid May. Please take the time to complete as your views are important in the future direction of the club. Some points to consider in your answers might include; the ongoing support for Core, Wednesday night Turbo and Tuesday morning swims? Are there areas of coaching or club-run sessions that aren’t being covered? Social events and club races? All ideas and opinions welcomed (it says on the note I got from the Chairman) particularly if you might also have a desire to join either the club committee or the Race organising team……….

Finally a warning that this Saturday could see a return to the waters of the Kings pool of not only yours truly but, rumour has it, a well-loved(?) bandy legged little fellow who’s finally recovered from an altercation with the tarmac whilst out cycling! I’m sure all of you and the poolside coaches will treat us both with the care and sympathy we deserve?

Train safe
