So the weather was rubbish on Sunday morning and for the first time in recent history we scrubbed a WGP event on safety grounds. My thanks to the 8 of you who turned up and helped me make the difficult but, at the time, justified decision. Of course the lure of sitting in Bluebells watching the rain drinking coffee was a side issue! Two hours later the rain abated and I had a pleasant if muddy 25km walk around Weirwood with Mad Jack! More on a possible rescheduled date for the Duathlon later.

Meantime of course, proper athletes were competing in the Steyning Stinger and congrats to Roger Taylor on his 14th place in the Half distance race followed home by Tom Lees and Lance Quirico. Out there even longer in the full Marathon was Juhana Kirk in an excellent (in my books) 4:11:12.

But, chapeau of the week goes to Cate Woolner and Pete Holley at the Winter Swimming World Age Group Championships in Tallinn, Estonia. Pete reports that the water was a chilly 0.3 degrees and clearly that's, in part, what led to his doing PB's in both the 100 & 50 freestyle events. Cate however came home with a host of medals taking silver in the 25m breaststroke and 25m fly plus bronze in the 50m free – truly awesome! You should also know that Pete gave of his best in the post-race drinking contest but eventually had to conced defeat to the Russians – plucky performance Pete!

Anyway, because of the unusual circumstances of postponing the WGP Duathlon I'm minded to give two chances this weekend for the event to take place. I can offer an 8.00am start on Saturday 11th and an 8.30am start on Sunday 12th. Provided there are a minimum of three starters then we will go ahead on both mornings and the best time at either event will be declared the winners. Not quite how we'd normally do it but I do want to give all those who came last Sunday another chance – and after all I make the rules!

That's it – train safe
