Weekly News 8 November 2016

Some important messages for you this week - well that’ll make a change from the usual drivel?

The Club AGM and Prize Giving takes place on Saturday 19th November at 9.00am in the Pavilion at King’s. We try to get through the committee reporting bit as quickly as we can so that we can move onto the exciting bits - free bacon rolls and the awarding of trophies to some very deserving members for their performances in 2016! Please come along and support as I really don’t want to listen to the Chairman’s speech on my own, again!

Fran Davis wants to bring the following excellent opportunity to your attention;

As part of my Level 2 British Cycling and Triathlon Coaching qualification, I'm looking for a small group of participants (minimum of 4) who want to improve their bike handling skills across a range of techniques. I will be coaching within the cyclocross discipline but please don't let this put you off! This is a really effective way of developing great balance and coordination, getting confidence when riding in close proximity with others, cornering, climbing and descending, and mounting and dismounting on the move to tackle obstacles (great for transition practice). This course is suitable for all riders who are confident taking a bike on the road and can road ride at an easy pace for 45 minutes.

I will be running 3 sessions from 8.30am - 10.30am on a Sunday morning on the following dates - 13th November, 27th November and 3rd December

The sessions will be held outside at Ultimate Laser Tag grounds (this is located halfway between East Grinstead & Forest Row and full details will be sent out to participants). ‚ÄčIdeally I will need participants to attend all 3 sessions, but if you would still like to do it and can only attend 2 let me know.

The terrain is not suitable for road bikes but is fine for hybrid, mountain bikes or cyclocross bikes. I do have 3 bikes available for use (1 large mountain bike suitable for up to 6 ft / 1 cyclocross bike small up to 5ft 6" / and 1 mountain bike suitable for up to 5 ft 7") if you would like to take part, but do not have a bike.

If you are interested in taking part, or want to ask any questions please can you drop me an email at davisfrancine@aol.com so I can send you further details.

And this message from King's regarding swimming in December;

It has just been agreed that we will be closing the pools for essential maintenance works this December.

The primary work will be to replace the poolside edging tiles. During this time we will also be carrying out a number of inspections and preventative maintenance works which we cannot undertake while the pool is in operation. The closure will also enable the final completion of the tiling works within the changing rooms.

The closure will start on Thursday 15th December and we are confident that the pools will be back open on Thursday 22nd December.

So for the Club that means NO swimming on; Thu 15th, Sat 18th and Tue 20th December - and we will cancel Core on Sat 18th as well to allow Jan a morning off!

The 2017 Winter GP dates and events are now on the website - although I will bring printed copies of the calendar along to the AGM for those who can’t cope with IT!

Finally, the 32nd East Grinstead Triathlon on Sunday 14th May 2017 is now open for entries and we are confident that the changes we have made to the format of the race - reducing the swim distances to allow for the cycle leg to be completed earlier - will prove popular and early entries certainly seem to bear this out?
