Congratulations to all of you who raced at Hever last weekend – lots of you over various distances and I'd be sure to miss someone if I tried to name check you all so please accept a collective well done!

Cate Woolner and Pete Holley took part in the British Open Water Championships in the Serpentine- Cate taking 5th place in her AG for the 3.3km distance and heading Pete by around a minute on timing! Meantime Derek Blackall was finishing 3rd in his AG at the inaugural Barns Green 10k. I don't see any of you listed in the EG10k results so I'll assume that all of you who were there where helping out – thank you all!

Personally my feet have now recovered from walking the 52 mile Sussex Stride last Saturday/Sunday with Jackie and Duncan! Great company all throughout the 16:47 that it took us and we probably won the “Best Banter” prize? Without doubt the best sight of the day was when we reached the Southease checkpoint at just after midnight to be greeted by Dave Nash and his portable BBQ dispensing bacon butties! Awesome and completely unexpected – thanks Dave! I am, as always, both in awe of Jackie's steely determination to see these things through and in my own stupidity in letting her talk me into it! Thanks Mate – what's next?

What's next in Oktoberfest is Park Run @ Tilgate, Crawley on Sat 1st October. If you are not registered go to  and do so and then bring the barcode with you so you can register a time. This will be my first run since February so if anyone fancies being Alistair to my Johnny then I'll see you on the start line!

Next up after that on Sat 8 Oct 8.00-8.45am Dance Studio – Kettlebells for Beginners, with Jan away we've asked Ollie to come along and give us an intro to improving our cardio, strength and flexibility using these weights. Should be a lot of fun? Then on Sat 15 Oct 9.15-10.15am Top Floor Station Car Park – Bike Handling Skills, how slow can you cycle and still maintain control? Can you slalom or bunny hop? Bring along your road or mountain bike, helmet etc and get advice and practical tips from cycle coach Simon Neeve. After that on Sat 22 Oct 8.15-9.15am Main Hall – Trampoline with Tracy! If you've never tried bouncing on a proper trampoline then this is the session for you! I'd suggest long running tights and two pairs of socks!

To end on Sat 29 Oct 8.30-10.00am Back room of Cafe area – Cake, Kit and Chat! A social morning sampling some superb home made cakes, swapping or selling any of your unwanted kit/gear and asking our top team of coaches for advice on training or racing in 2017!

And don't forget the extra Oktoberfest event – Women on Wheels event at Cyclopark, Gravesend Sun 9 October. Karen Mycock is organising car shares to get there and back so talk to her and take a look on  website for details

This week sees the first of the Oktoberfest Swim Smooth sessions – turn up at either time and be prepared for all sorts of drills, spills and thrills under the watchful eye of our great coaching team (is what it says here!). Follow that up with a Core session with Jan which I have to say has been eye opening? Lots of flexibilty exercises involving feet and toes and not perhaps the manic thrashing that you might expect? Ask Maurice or Roger if you don't believe me?

Train safe
