First up this week congratulations to Juhana Kirk on his 11:02:21 at Ironman Weymouth last weekend – a hot but great day apparently, although maybe spend a little less time milking the applause in the finish chute and a sub-11 should be easy next time......

A final reminder that the East Grinstead 10km is on 25 Sept this year and the organisers are looking for volunteer marshals. If you haven’t marshalled at this event before, then please come along as it's a really brilliant local and friendly race, very popular with about 400 runners, and also all over very quickly!! The race starts at 10am and all over shortly after 11am. If you can come along, please contact Colin at colinjamesday@yahoo.co.uk  to let him know and he will add you to his list and he will contact you nearer to race day with detail

I also need to let you know about the Horsted Keynes Village Duathlon taking place on Sun 2nd October being organised by Paul Hedger and the team. Choice of Long/Short versions and a great fun event competing against members from the other local clubs – bragging rights at stake here people! Event website www.hktriathlon.uk  for details and all money raised goes to village charities and there is a great choice of pubs for that post-race re-hydration

Martin's reminded you of timings for Monday night swimming at Weirwood – but it won't hurt to say it's 6.30pm or if you turn up later that's ok but you will have to get out when Marcus loses sight of you!

But, the real purpose of this weeks News is to give you details on this years Oktoberfest. For new members October is the time when we do weird things in the pool and follow that up with new and exciting things out of it! Learn some new things and try others for the first time – and have fun doing it! Webmaster Mike will put all the details on the website but here's a brief list;

Sat 24 Sep 9.00-10.00am Pavilion – Swim Smooth explained! Tom and Martin provide the info

Sat 1 Oct 9.00am – Park Run @ Tilgate if you are not registered go to www.parkrun.org.uk/tilgate and do so and then bring the barcode with you so you can register a time. This will be my first run since February so I don't anticipate getting far up the EGTC records – check them out on Park Run website!

Sat 8 Oct 8.00-8.45am Dance Studio – Kettlebells for Beginners, with Jan away we've asked Ollie to come along and give us an intro to improving our cardio, strength and flexibility using these weights

Sat 15 Oct 9.15-10.15am Top Floor Station Car Park – Bike Handling Skills, how slow can you cycle and still maintain control? Can you slalom or bunny hop? Bring along your road or mountain bike, helmet etc and get advice and practical tips from cycle coach Simon Neeve

Sat 22 Oct 8.30-9.30am Main Hall – Trampoline with Tracy! If you've never tried bouncing on a proper trampoline then this is the session for you! I'd suggest long running tights and two pairs of socks!

Sat 29 Oct 8.30-10.00am Back room of Cafe area – Cake, Kit and Chat! A social morning sampling some superb home made cakes, swapping or selling any of your unwanted kit/gear and asking our top team of coaches for advice on training or racing in 2017!

Hope you can come along and support as many of these events as you can – lots of people giving up their time to run them so why not give them a try?

Train safe
