This afternoon's drizzly rain forces me inside to write this weeks News – albeit the dampness is as nothing compared to the deluge that Jackie and I walked through last weekend at the Across Wales Walk! 45 miles, 16 hours and barely a dry moment! Although it wasn't actually raining at the top of Plynlimon, just 45+mph winds and visibility of around 15 meters! Thoroughly enjoyable and the perfect warm up for the Sussex Stride in two weeks time – should be a piece of cake........

Some recent results that I'm aware of; Worthing Triathlon – Emily Mcloughlin took 1st Female in 2:08:58 and showed a clean pair of heels to Tim Lucas (anyone remember him?) 2:13;50, Tom Lees 2:25:46 and Richard Traynor 2:26:38 – particularly tough swim in a Force 6 south westerly I believe?

Competing earlier today at The Vitruvian its congratulations to; Andy Peel (5:11:36), Nick Kay (5:24:27), Keith Roberts (5:48:09), Dave Pawsey (5:53:59), Tracy Caudle (6:10:04) and Jane Roberts (6:16:38) – brilliant performances all round!

A reminder from Martin that Club OWS sessions at Weir Wood on Mondays will now be from 18:30 to 19:30 until the end of season now that the nights are drawing in – but the water is still wonderful!

I'm going to keep reminding you that the East Grinstead 10km is on 25 Sept this year and the organisers are looking for volunteer marshals. If you haven’t marshalled at this event before, then please come along as it's a really brilliant local and friendly race, very popular with about 400 runners, and also all over very quickly!! The race starts at 10am and all over shortly after 11am. If you can come along, please contact Colin at to let him know and he will add you to his list and he will contact you nearer to race day with details.

The first event in this years Oktoberfest will actually be on the last Saturday in September – Sat 24th – when Martin and Tom will lead a session in the Pavilion giving you an insight into the Swim sessions they will be coaching through the Autumn. Knowledge as they say is power so get yourself along there at 9.00am to have an early glimpse of what's in store!

I'm trying to finalise the other activities for Oktoberfest but don't forget that Jackie Barker is offering a possible trip to Merstham Caves near Redhill in the company of some expert cavers from the Surrey Search & Rescue team. This is likely to have to be limited to 6-8 people and a “voluntary” contribution of £10-15 per head might be appropriate? Names of interested parties to me asap and then Jackie can try to organise day/time?

Finally for those who've not tried it yet can I recommend Core with Jan at the slightly revised time of 7.40-8.10am each Saturday? Please come along, not only will it do you the world of good but it will give me someone to hide behind!
