A very big thankyou to everyone who helped out at the EG Triathlon this year - whether that was on Saturday, Sunday or both and regardless of the amount of time you were able to give! Feedback from competitors has been universally positive with many praising the support they received at all stages of the race from the friendly and encouraging marshals - that’s you lot! The glorious weather was clearly a bonus and most welcome after some very chilly previous years? The speed and efficiency with which the event was put together on Saturday and then dismantled on Sunday is testament to your hard work and the great leadership of (and I apologise if I miss anyone) Martin, Keith, Tom, Clare, Steve and Cathy together with the year-round efforts of Mike, Michael and, of course, the Supreme Leader himself Rich Merry!

As for the EGTC members who actually raced, I was glad to provide vocal encouragement in the Transition area to many of them and would like to think that, in particular, Gary Sims benefitted as his desire to get away from the barracking led to him beating Steve Osborne by just 10 seconds overall! Great work from all of you and I hope you enjoyed the day?

The 2017 EG Triathlon is in for Sunday 7th May - so why not get the date in your diary now?

This coming weekend it’s the Kids Triathlon at Kings and Paul is still looking for help anytime from 6.30am onwards? The racing starts at 10.30am so there is time to get some training in beforehand if that’s what's stopping you helping out? If you’ve not been before it is a great event and, as the song goes, these kids are the future! See you there?

If you fancy a 5km dash around Ashdown Forest then why not try the Ashdown Fun Run on 5th June being partly organised by Emily and based near Chateau Miles at the Village Hall in Chelwood Gate? It’s a 10.00am start and details at www.ashdown-weekend.com

Open water swimming continues at Weirwood Reservoir with the EGTC-only session on Monday nights 6.30-7.30pm. The water was a positively subtropical 15 degrees this week which meant I doubled my time in the water from the previous visit! Other swim session times are available and there is a 2km swim challenge event on Friday 27th May with entry cost including a post-swim BBQ! Details at www.popupopenwaterswims.vpweb.co.uk

Think that’s all for this week?
