Great to see so many of you at the first event in the 2016 WGP! Twenty one runners plus associated family members both running and generally supporting – thanks to all of you. Some exceptionally good cakes and buns at the finish and feel free to continue this tradition throughout the rest of the Series!

Top honours (and the regular bottles of wine) go to Richard Smith and Sally Curtis as first EGTC finishers. Rich was second overall, holding off Andrew Drake who took third. Both would, I'm sure, agree that the winners time of 37 minutes was simply stunning on a hilly, muddy course! The organisers had chosen to run the route in reverse to last year and I certainly felt like I was going backwards at times! Only the aforementioned Andrew, Pete Holley and Mick Norrington improved on their 2015 times – so I think we can all agree it was a tougher test this year? In particular the long uphill finish, with supporters at the top preventing any walking taking place, was gruelling? Jane Roberts distinguished herself by drafting all the way up and then piping her rival in the last few yards – complete with celebratory fist pump – but it was Clare Collett's holding off of Mick Norrington all the way to the line that has earned her the first Chairman's Special Prize of the 2016 WGP! Congratulations to all of you!

Next up in the Series is the 1000m swim TT on Saturday 6th February. The swim is part of that mornings set so you can take part either at 6.30 or 7.25am. I'll need some help with counting/timing so if you are at a loose end and want to help out it would be appreciated? Next up after that will be the notorious Swim/Run on 20th Feb – so expect the weather to turn colder, snowier and just generally horrible!

Can I thank those who came along to the meeting regarding the possible Junior Section – I've written up the notes and sent to those who where there. If you missed it then these are also on the website and we intend to discuss further at Committee in a couple of weeks time. Any further input would be appreciated and I'd suggest we will probably get together again in late February to see what more progress we can make?

Last chance this Saturday to try on kit and get your orders to Lorraine as she will finalise the following week so as to get it all here for late March in time for the Race season. She also has some spare pieces that can be bought at bargain prices – no reasonable offer refused!

Finally, a couple of options for mountain bike rides this Saturday. Option 1; Darren Howe will be leading a ride @ Holmbury – meet in Kings LC car park at 9.00am with your bike in/on your car for the drive over there and ride till around midday. Option 2; meet me in K2 Crawley car park at 1200 noon for 90 minute ride in Tilgate Forest. Mud, thrills ans spills guaranteed at both!

That's it – train safe...
