First the very good news that Simon Powell is out of hospital and at home on the road to recovery. Simon was hit whilst out training on his TT bike on the A264 near Horsham on Sun 7 June. Sadly I have no news on the damage to his bike but his injuries include; a broken left wrist, right collarbone (in 3 places) and two broken ribs plus deep lacerations to his left knee and all the usual bruises and road rash you'd expect from a 45kph crash! However, his TT helmet did its job and his Road ID was extremely useful to the driver who stopped to help and the emergency services! He's likely to be off work for a few weeks but wants it to be known that he's still available to club members who may have welfare issues they want to discuss – the man is a star! I'm sure you'd like to join me in wishing him a speedy and full recovery and we'll keep you posted on his progress.

In other news, at the Mid Sussex Tri, Adam Grange took 7th OA and 3rd in his AG with Andy Peel in 27th and Fran Davis 54th (2nd AG). In the Aqua-bike event, Simon Neave had an excellent 2nd OA with Steve Boyne 16th – great work all of you.

At the same time in another part of Mid Sussex the Magnificent Seven where tackling the Tour edition of the Etape du Sussex! Keith, Jane and Sally together with Mick Norrington, Gary Vickers, Tom Lees and myself had a pleasant ride around the countryside that included a descent of Kidds Hill and an ascent of Cob Lane! Congratulations to Jane and Mick who got up it on their first attempt whilst myself, Gary and Sally where forced to walk after another rider fell off bringing Gary down and forcing the rest of us off our bikes to help! Fortunately no one was hurt in this incident nor in the two unprovoked attacks that Keith carried out on his fellow team members during the ride! The first was a Cavendish-like shoulder barge on his good lady wife whilst the later was literally within yards of the finish as he brought Mick down in a heap on the tarmac! Mick was unhurt but is certain that the fall cost him a Gold Award in his age group!

Think that's it? Apart of course from the usual reminder of the Xmas Party on 5th December!

Train safe (never felt those words where more pertinent?)
